Personalize and Print Your Own Calendars - It's Easy!

By: Chris Robertson

If you're like most people, you have mixed feelings about calendars. They clutter up your mailbox. Whenever you need one, it's out of date or you can't find it. Or you buy a real nice one somewhere and then have no place to put it because it's too large. Or out of date again. But we all do need calendars. So you've wondered whether you should print your own calendars instead, but most of the calendar software is confusing and finicky. Fortunately, there are alternatives that are a whole lot quicker and easier.

I am talking about an Internet calendar making application. That's not as unusual as it may sound. Web-based applications are becoming more and more popular, and they are generally easier to use. Google, Yahoo and Microsoft all have web-based applications. So why not web-based calendars?

One site I reviewed charges US$14.99 for a year's worth of unlimited usage of their web-based calendar making service. While we like to get everything for free these days, I found the site to be a great value. I routinely take hundreds and hundreds of pictures and love to look at them, and share them, in some useful way. What better way than making my own photo calendars and sharing them with friends and family?

Making a personalized calendar with a web-based application couldn't be easier. You use your own pictures, of course, select your own borders and colors, and add your own holidays and events (like birthdays, parties, celebrations, anniversaries, vacations, etc.). Pick the best picture for the cover, and then generate the calendar as a high-quality downloadable PDF file. You even get your own download area and it's all secure and private.

There are, of course, many different formats to pick and choose from, as well as different fonts, styles and orientations. Select a 12/18 month layout or some other format that works for you. PDF stands for "Portable Document Format" and is Adobe's universal file format that guarantees razor sharp text and highest quality images no matter how much you zoom in. PDF files are equally suitable for printing on any type of printer as they are for viewing on a screen. Heck, you can even view them on some smartphones and handheld computers. So create and print your own calendars. It simply makes sense.

How am I using my online calender account? I made about a dozen different 2009 calendars with different themes. I have one with family pictures, one for business associates, and several for the pictures I take on my trips. I just finished one with the best pictures from a recent scuba diving vacation where I got to see the most amazing underwater scenery and creatures. Rather than letting all those pictures sit in some file folder, I enjoy them in my calendars. I have the icons of my favorite ones lined up on my desktop so those memories are never more than a click away.

It's fun to print your own calendars, and the best way to do it is with a dedicated web application. You get professional results, it costs next to nothing, and you can print and share to your heart's content.
