Incentive minutes and texts, are they a good thing with a cell phone company?

By: misty

Mobile phones are often considered a must have item in this new age. We are always in need of keeping in touch with work, family, and our email even when we are not at home or in the office. Many mobile phone companies will offer great benefits for signing up with them for at least 12 months. This means you will have a contract with the mobile company for 12 months in order to procure such incentives as minutes and text messaging. In order to determine if incentive minutes and text messaging is a good thing with a mobile phone company you will need to ask a few questions.

How do they offer these incentive minutes and text messaging?

Most mobile phone companies offer these incentives when you sign up for a 12 month contract, however there are a few companies that will only offer these incentive minutes and text messaging in a 24 month contract.

Mobile phone companies may offer text messaging for the two primary phones. This means if you have five phones on your contract they will charge for three phones to text message even if you are text messaging with in your network.

Incentive minutes may come with the plan for the primary phone or all phones on the contract. Incentive minutes are usually free minutes that are usable at any time. There are some mobile phone companies that may limit these incentive minutes to off peak hours.

Do these incentive minutes and text messaging come with a free phone?

Many mobile phone companies are offering package deals. This means you are able to procure a 12 month contract with a free new phone, incentive minutes and text messaging for a great rate. Again it is important to determine how these incentives are offered when you are comparing mobile phone companies. There are companies that offer these incentives to the primary phone and not to the additional lines.

How many minutes do you need to purchase for these incentive minutes and text?

Often if you purchase a 12 month contract for any level of minutes they will offer these incentives. Again there are a few mobile phone companies that will only offer the incentive minutes and text messaging for 1000 or more minutes because they have a special price for those packages if you are to sign up now.

To answer the original question, are incentive minutes and text messaging a good thing to have with a mobile phone company, I would say yes. This answer is conditioned on the type of package you seek as well as how the incentives can be used. As the consumer it is up to you and your monetary budget to determine if you will save with a package including incentive minutes and text messaging. I would agree that text messaging; unless you have a package deal can be quite expensive especially if the mobile phone is for your child. Most of the time we sign up for a 12 month contract anyway so having incentive minutes and text messaging only adds to the appeal of the contract.
