How to Write Resume in a Recession

The world economy is getting tough with every passing day; dollars getting weak, stock market is crashing, companies laying off employees and governments working hard so as to save the world economy . With the worldwide business sentiment affected, recession is a tough time to deal with, especially for budding professionals who are affected in one of the following ways:

1. They've to stick to their jobs amidst several professional tortures.
2. They're shown the pink slip with almost no fault at their end.

Whatever be the way you're affected, getting hold of a job that is in someway related to your domain of education and experience is no child's play, specially in the current financial meltdown.

Resume writing and applying for jobs are something that we all are familiar with. But how do these things differ in times of recession? Recession-proof resumes need to carry that extra ounce for you to get ahead in your job hunt. This article aims to guide you through the steps to outline your resume in times of recession:

Try and be flexible
During times of recession it is necessary that you try and be as much as flexible as possible, and this factor should clearly be reflected in your resume. Yes, you should be focused and determined when making long-term career plans, but never be RIGID. While drafting your resume during the tough periods of recession, focus not only on the jobs that you as an employee would like to take up, but do also mention the profiles and kind of work that you are open to. Try and be as much as flexible, communicate the fact to your potential employer that you are open to negotiations whether it is the work profile or the pay scale, and see how things work your way.

Sell yourself through your resume
Recession times are tough times, and this factor needs high consideration when you sit down to write down your CV to apply for a job. With companies shutting down, and vulnerable job market, two things can make you get the job of your kind: 1. your qualifications and skill set and, 2. your destiny. With absolutely no control over your destiny, you need to make the fullest use of your professional experience, qualifications and skill sets while in order to make the job happen for you. Sans qualification highlights in your resume, chances of hitting upon unsolicited job offers are very slim. List your accomplishments, your professional qualifications focus upon your sets of skills that can prove to be beneficial for the organization in the long run.

Extensive research works required
It is natural for companies to change their tactics and company policies during times of economic slowdown, and it is advisable that you do a thorough homework before your job application and CV writing. Professional businessmen do not generally think focus on the future during times of recession, and this is something that is very important to be noted. This is the time when the company's HR department along with the other sections faces added responsibilities. You need to take full advantage of the scope and mention in your resume/CV your capabilities of shouldering these added responsibilities, apart from the profile that you're being recruited for, and living up to the challenges thrown by the world's economy.

To conclude, do not just focus on your part of the cake. Highlight your strengths and capabilities of shouldering all kind of responsibilities and departmental works that might be helpful to the organization during these tough times.
