Caribbean

By: Declan Vickery

Looking for the ideal getaway? The Caribbean may just be everything you are looking for: sun, sand, warm water, and accommodating people. The Caribbean has everything. This article will discuss just a few of the reasons so many people list the Caribbean as their favorite vacation spot and can't wait to go again next year.

Caribbean refers to a group of islands in the Caribbean Sea. Cancun, Cozumel and the Mayan Riviera, in Mexico, are often referred to as part of the region. There is beautiful weather all year round and it's a popular destination for "snowbirds". Snowbird refers to pensioners who like to head to warmer climates in the winter months.

There are so many islands in the Caribbean…how do you decide which one to visit? Each island is unique and holds its own history. Many of the islands have fascinating ruins that are left over from the original inhabitants that lived there. If you head to the Mayan Riviera the ruins and archeological sites that date back to Mayan times are simply breath-taking. Some of the islands are multi- national, such as the island on Saint Martin/Sint Maarten. The island is half French and half Dutch and offers two separate territories to explore.

Guadalupe, a must see, actually consists of two islands: Grand-Terre and Basse-Terre. The culture is Creole which merges African and French traditions. It's a flamboyant place, famous for great beaches, resorts and rum. Visiting Guadeloupe will take you to islands of beaches, modern cities and little out of the mainstream inlets.

St. Thomas is another treat among the Caribbean Islands. Well known to sailors as one of the yacht capitals of the world, it also offers landlubbers a shopping experience like no other island, you'll busy for hours before you head back to your sumptuous accommodations. The capitol city of St. Thomas, Charlotte Amalie, offers visitors fine restaurants that line the streets - take a stroll along the boardwalk and if you like nightlife, indulge yourself in one of the friendly found scattered throughout the city along the coastal waters.

It doesn't' matter which Caribbean island you decide to visit. You will always find the most gorgeous blue and clean waters under the ever shining sun. Once you visit, you will want to come back often to visit all of the islands.
