A blogging community is an online possibility to share interests

By: Clint Jhonson

It is no longer a matter of novelty: if you want to join an online community, a blogging community makes one of the top choices in this direction, these days. Apart from serving as reliable channels for promotions, supervisions (of products, services, books, events, and so on), and discussions, blogs are a means of developing powerful communities over the Internet. Generally, such communities gather together people who share similar interests, whether these are books, cars, celebrities, political events, cultural experiences, and so on.

In other words, a blogging community functions according to the same principle that guides the formation of any community: a shared interest. One might say that there are as many blogs as there are interests out there and he or she would not be far from the reality. It is only natural that people interested in books, for instance, look for the company of others like them to discuss their opinions and see what others think about the same book that they have recently read. Alternatively, people might be interested in a certain type of music. Some may like it for the sound; some may like it for its lyrics. Irrespective of the reason for liking it (or maybe hating it, such a situation is also possible), they will need to talk about it, and they may choose to do that by means of blogs.

A blogging community brings everything at a level of discussion that is more intimate, since a blog entry will usually attract one’s attention specifically because he or she has some sort of a special, personal interest in the topic displayed or suggested in that entry. With that kind of interest in your blog posts, visitors are likely to grow an interest in you, as well, as long as you manage to propose topics to stimulate the reader’s need to communicate. For reaching a wider audience, the recommendation is to maintain the language in the posts as simple and as natural as possible. If you use too specialized language, you are instantly aiming at an extremely targeted public, which means that your visitors are going to be less numerous.

However, since the role of a blogging community is… communication, and since communication cannot take place without common means of conversation, and since common means of conversation involve accessible language, it is preferable that you maintain it in accessible limits. Blog posts will convey their intended meaning of community establishing as long as readers are able to get it; they need to be able to grasp this meaning. Otherwise, it will stimulate no personal interest in them.

To say it concisely, blogs have meaning precisely because, by means of their topic and of the language used, they manage to maintain the flame of the readers’ interest kindled. In addition, if you find something original or interactive, apart from the comments in which blog visitors usually engage, you can create stable readers. Once you have a certain level of loyalty of readers, the blogging community has reached its purpose. For instance, such communities make available the means of organizing polls on preferred topics of discussion. In this manner, readers get to engage, every once in a while, in something additional to give them a sense of the importance of their communication.

Indeed, blogs may go highly personal, specifically because they develop a strong sense of online community. A blog entry is enough to encourage a visitor’s reaction. Once the reaction translates into a blog comment, and once the comment gets a reply (from the author of the blog or from other blog visitors), dialogue is set up. In any case, a blog can serve as a highly effective means of expressing oneself while allowing the others to say an opinion, too. This type of reciprocity is probably one of the most important features that such an online community can offer.

The popularity of blogs has its roots in the possibility of communicating on an incredible number of topics. In addition, the sense of friendly get-together that a blogging community offers is one of the features that create so many bonds at the online level.
