A Computer Worker's Guide to the Supportive Aeron Chair

By: Chris Robertson

With more and more people working on computers, it's no wonder so many innovative computer chairs have been designed in the last two decades. Prolonged computer work often brings discomfort to the neck, back and legs after hours of sitting, but with certain types of chairs, the negative effects can be minimized. The Aeron chair is definitely one to consider if you work long hours at a computer, whether at home or in an office environment.

What is an Aeron Chair?

The term "Aeron" describes a brand of chair designed by two men named Don Chadwick and Bill Stumpf in 1994, and manufactured by Herman Miller. Though the Aeron chair is one of the more expensive lines of chairs in the realm of name brand office chairs, it is ergonomically designed and very comfortable because of its adjustability and many fits to suit each owner. The seats are unique in design because they are made of a type of flexible mesh called Pellicle, which can be customized with sacral and lumbar support, comfortable arm rests, and other needful aspects. Also, the seat material is semi-transparent and is stretched to create the look and feel desired.

Benefits of the Aeron Chair

Among modern chairs of today, comfort and support should be the top priority when shopping for an office chair. Many modern office chairs are comfortable but offer no support, or they are supportive but not comfortable. As a computer worker, you'll likely spend at least eight hours per day or more sitting in your office chair. Though you might have to invest a little more money to buy an Aeron chair, it's well worth the price considering you'll be spending most of your days sitting in the chair. It's good for your overall health, including back and spinal health as well as neck support and leg support. Beware: Office chairs that are comfortable but without support may "feel" wonderful at the start, but can harm your posture and health little by little without notice.

Some supportive features that have been incorporated into the Aeron chair design include Kinemat Tilt (for tension adjustment), Pellicle Suspension (to allocate weight evenly), Lumbar Support (adjustable support for long hours at work), and PostureFit (for lower back support). Having a comfortable, supportive chair will also help you work more efficiently.

Chair Sizes

The Aeron chair not only fits for comfort, it also can be fitted according to the size of each individual. It comes in three sizes, which are labeled A, B and C. The B size has become a top seller among the three because it works well with most body types. Chairs can be chosen based on height and weight for ultimate comfort while working.

Size A has an adjustable seat height of 16 inches to 20.5 inches with a seat width of 19 inches. Size B has a seat height of 16 inches to 20.5 inches with a seat width of 20.5 inches. Size C has a seat height of 16 inches to 20.5 inches with a seat width of 21.625 inches. Aeron chairs offer a size and weight chart to help you find the perfect size.

If you're searching for a luxury ergonomic chair that will provide support throughout the workday and look great with your other office furniture, consider an Aeron chair. Aeron chairs can easily be ordered online if you don't have a retailer near you. You'll soon realize why Aeron chairs are among the best of name brand office chairs.
