5 Facts about Warts Everyone Should Know

Warts are more than a cosmetic problem for many people. They can cause severe discomfort and pain if left untreated. There are several types of warts, and they can differ in size, shape, color, and the location where they appear on the body. Many people may have the wrong idea about warts and what causes them, so we've put together five interesting facts about warts.

1. All Warts are not Created Equal

There are various types of warts that have different causes and effects. The most common type of wart is caused by a condition called human papilloma virus (HPV). HPV warts are benign, but some strains of HPV may cause cervical cancer in women. There is the painful Planter's (plantar) type wart and the common flat wart. There are also genital warts or condyloma, which can cause much physical and psychological distress if left untreated.

HPV warts are called verrucae and may grow anywhere on the body. The virus is highly contagious and may spread to other persons or to various areas of the infected person's body. There are also molluscs (or molluscum contagiosum), which is a wart-like infection that affects many kids. Molluscs are caused by molluscum contagiosum virus (MCV), not HPV.

2. HPV Warts are Incurable

Once your body is infected with the HPV virus, it is incurable and remains in your DNA. You can, however, treat and remove the warts through surgery or natural processes such as using essential oils. The HPV virus is always present, but wart outbreaks can occur sporadically.

3. Warts Sometimes Go Away on Their Own, But Not Always

Though warts can sometimes disappear without treatment, they can also worsen and spread throughout the body. Those that do disappear will usually do so within about six months.

4. Genital Warts Cannot Spread to Other Parts of the Body

Though many types of warts can spread to your hands, feet, and other areas of the body, genital warts remain in the genital area only. Genital warts can be sexually transmitted from one person to another.

5. Treatment and Prevention of Warts is Possible

Though many warts will go away without treatment, severe cases can and should be treated. Removing warts can be accomplished using various methods: freezing the warts, burning off with acids, poisoned with toxins (through prescribed medications), or removed naturally with essential oils. Some types of warts may require surgery for removal. Prevention of future outbreaks is also possible through boosting the body's immune system. There are many natural substances to help boost the immune system, including green tea extract, grape seed extract, bioflavins, and selenium.

If you are experiencing a wart breakout, consider all your options and consult with a doctor to find out what type of warts you have. Also, check online resources to find essential oils for natural, easy wart removal. Essential oils have been successful in removing common warts, genital warts, molluscs, and even skin tags. It may take from two to six weeks to see the results, but it will be well worth the effort.
